October 11, 2007

The Pulse of Radio reports: VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth turned 53 amidst many good wishes on Wednesday (October 10),as the group performed at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Roth himself was the first to note the occasion, telling the crowd early in the show that "I've had too many birthdays, and this one is the best!"

Before "Ice Cream Man", Roth added that, "This IS my birthday tonight, and I waited a long time to open this present. Bassist Wolfgang Van Halen wished Roth a happy birthday at the end of the song, while his father, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, started his solo spot with an instrumental "Happy Birthday", explaining that, "I'm just welcoming my brother back. It's his birthday tonight. Happy birthday Dave — I love you!"

Several fans brought signs to the show offering their birthday wishes for Roth as well.

Roth and some friends celebrated his birthday on Tuesday (October 9) with a dinner at Cleveland restaurant The Chop House.

VAN HALEN, in the midst of its first tour with Roth since 1984, next performs Friday (October 12) in Toronto.
